Question:
Just out of curiosity...what do you (my good friends of the classical section) guys think of this?

Is it a beautiful, somewhat jazzed-up rendition, or another 'ruined' or 'misused' piece of beautiful music?

Personally I love it, probably because I love Sungha, and probably because I love music other than classical, too. But some of you guys are pretty strict...just out of pure curiosity, what do you think? :D Have a nice day!

Actually it wasn't that bad... It was fun. Although I don't think it's absolutley "fantastic" music, it was enjoyable to listen to. Actually, it seemed to be actually kind of intellectual... The arranger explored lots of rhythms and inversions of the melody... Clever, but not quite as ingenious as Bach's Goldberg Variations, or Rachmaninoff's Variations on a theme of Paganini...

Not bad, especially because it was an acoustic guitar... I love the acoustic guitar... Very pretty sound...

As for the category selection, hahaha, it was probably "Curiosity" that made it go to that category... :)

Have a great day Person.!

I think it's awesome for what it is. I mean, lots of times I'll be learning a piece and I'll go over a section so many times that eventually I start inserting different rhythms and such. I think that it's great that he can do that, because once you make the music your own, that's when it really starts to flourish. Would I listen to this style all the time? No. But if he was playing a recital, I definitely think it would be pretty cool as an encore piece. When I was in high school, I played a senior recital right before I graduated. I had over an hour program of Beethoven, Ginastera, Bach, Mozart, and Rachmaninov. What did I play for my encore piece? Linus and Lucy.

After three seconds, the lack of proper tuning turned me off.

Bach wrote the art of the fugue and designated no instrument(ation).

This musical era and earlier, a lot of composed pieces were 'open' to many possibilities of registration.

You should check out Andre Segovia playing Bach on the Guitar.

@tucomena

But having in mind all the countless arrangements throughout Classical music written by a composer based on another composer's work, why exactly would you be opposed to "allow" another artist to either "reproduce your composition as intended" or "remake it to their own"?

I mean, your composition doesn't get lost, or destroyed because of that, neither does "The hall of the mountain king" get damaged if Apocalyptica play a "metal version" of this piece.

If creative ideas as such aren't limited to composing entirely new works from scratch, why limit them to only that?

Sorry, person...I don't like such things. I think that the composer's work should be interpreted EXACTLY as he meant it to be played. He should be totally respected.

I can't accept changing rhythm, instrument, etc.or any other indications that the composer himself left us well marked

He handed his inspiration to us in a certain way, I feel we do not have the right to change his intentions in any way whatsoever....

Whenever I compose something, I make sure to indicate my intentions in detail, because I don't want my music to be distorted , but interpreted just as I intended it to sound.

By the same token, I believe in keeping the masterpieces exactly as they were produced..

If we want beautiful music, let's not murder the great compositions, instead let's try to become inspired and produce our own.

This is a beautiful arrangement by Alex Kabasser and this young man plays it wonderfully. It has a great flow and is very smooth. Makes me feel light and relaxed. o_O
