I am watching Die Frau Ohne Schatten and OH MY FRIGGIN GOD! The first two acts so far were THEEE most gorgeous pieces of music EVER!

I loved his Elektra (Strauss's) and OMG! I WORSHIP THIS ONE!

HOLY CRAP! And the setting is just magical!

Marjana Lipovsek plays the role of the Nurse SO WELL! She made me SHIVER twice. So creepy!

And her soli are so funny!

Just be passionate or don't write anything!

I so agree with you. I have seen the opera many times with Brigitte Nielsen (both as Empress and Nurse), Hildegard Behrens and Deborah Voigt at various times and conducted by greats from Karl Bohm to Christian Thielemann. But the proof of its greatness to me was seeing it with a little known Empress, Ruth Falcon, flown in from London as an emergency replacement and conducted by an inept conductor,Christoph Perick - it was still great and tears came to my eyes at the end due to the amazing music that accompanies the Empress's finaly knowing the importance of selflessness. Its one of the top 5 operas in my mind. Always an amazing experience! I assume you are watching the George Solti Salzburg version. I thought Cheryl Studer is pretty great in that too.
