Question:
Which Classical Guitar?

I'm looking for some classical guitar recommendations. I've been playing guitar for 22 years, both electric and steel string acoustic, but I want a 'proper' quality nylon strung classical now (with a wider nut than my steel strung acoustic). The spec I want is vaguely - spruce top with an ebony fingerboard. Budget £500 - £800 (at a push). Manuel Rodriguez, Jose Ramirez Guitars, Yamaha, Esteve, and Cordoba.
What do you reckon guys? This is my 40th birthday treat to myself! :-)

Birdgirl's is the best answer.

Especially with classical guitars there is no "brand" which is best, it's all about how they feel and sound to play. There are also a lot of independent luthiers who make spectacular guitars, although they will be definitely at the top end of your budget and more.

So yeah, do a google search and find a proper specialty classical guitar shop near to you. Then go and spend an afternoon trying them all out! Much more satisfying than going in and asking for a specific model :)

If you're not going to play strictly classical guitar, any of the above would do nicely. I want to recongnize the Jose Ramirez and Ibanez classical guitars specifically. I personally own an Amalio Burguet and it is a gem.

I'd look at the Cordoba instruments.

... @ £14,535 I think the Manuel Ramirez model by Jose Ramirez is a little out of your price range

Go somewhere you can actually try out the instruments yourself. How an instrument sounds and feels to a guitarist can be very subjective. You can't just go by brand names alone because when you are dealing with something made with natural materials (like wood), there may be differences from guitar to guitar--even with the same model. These differences may be very subtle, but they could make a difference to you personally. With your price range you should be able to get a wide choice of good guitars.

When I decided to treat myself to an upgrade (also a birthday present to myself), I must have spent over two hours in the store testing guitar after guitar. I also went into the shop with an entirely different guitar in mind, and finally picked one that I just kept going back to because it just seemed to say "mine".

Happy 40th! Of the brands you've listed, I've heard the most positive feedback about Cordoba classical guitars.
