I'd likely give an entirely different list next week, but at the moment, in no particular order:

Dmitri Shostakovich's 8th string quartet

George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue (I reccomend Bernstein conducting. There's a laid back sexiness to the piece that I've only heard him realize)

Maurice Ravel's La Valse

Arvo Pärt in general of late (particularly Tabula Rasa, Fratres, and Silouans Song)

Sergei Rachmaninoff's Trio élégiaque No. 1 in G minor

Honorable mention to Philip Glass' 2nd and 5th string quartets, Leonard Bernstein's Facsimile, and John Adams' Shaker Loops.

In no order:

O Mio Babbino Caro, the aria from Gianni Schicci by Giacomo Puccini, ties with Ponchielli's Suiccido for my favourite aria

Tod und Verklärung (Death and Transfiguration) by Richard Strauss

Symphony no.2 'Resurrection' by Gustav Mahler, definitely my favourite symphony

Requiem in D minor, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (completed by Süssmayer), contains the famous Kyrie, Dies Irae, Lacrimosa and Confutatis

last of all.... oen that keeps getting stuck in my head...

The Infernal Galop (Cancan) from Orpheus in the Underworld, by Jacques Offenbach.

I cannot pick 5. It would be sacrilegious!

I like your choices.

Since I cannot pick, I will say anything on that is on http://www.classicalconnect.com/
