I greatly admire many of the contributors here in the classical music section of Y!A, so I'd like to hear your opinions on Josh Groban and Sarah Brightman. I enjoy Groban's music, but I don't think of him as the overflowing bucket of steaming talent that many of his fans view him as. I prefer opera as opposed to "contemporary" or "easy listening" vocal works, but I do enjoy many of his songs.

As for Sarah Brightman, well, she just freaks me out. I was studying different versions of "Lascia Ch'io Pianga" from Handel's "Rinaldo" for a vocal competition, and her version scared me. It's not just her scary dancing, either. Her voice just . . . aggravates me! She seems very overrated.

Your opinions on these two?

Also, I put this question in the Classical category because this question is aimed at those who frequently inhabit said category. If I wanted glowing reviews concerning Groban's hair or Brightman's musical performances, I would have placed it in Singing or just plain Entertainment and Music.

Josh Groban and Sarah Brightman are not classical music artists, so this question is posted in the wrong forum.

Josh Groban, he's ok. I won't want to hear him sing opera though, at least not until he's had some proper operatic training.

Sarah Brightman creeps me out with her bug-eyed look (which is supposedly "opera technique"....NOT) and makes me want to bash her head against a wall. "Ooooo meooooo boooobehnoo cooorooo" (if you can even figure out what I was trying to type...cos I have problems figuring out what she's singing all the time). One of my friends told me that when she first heard Brightman sing "Wishing you were somehow here again" from Phantom of the Opera, she thought she was singing "too many beers fighting back deers, why can't the purse straws dry!" =D

I won't go to her concerts even for free.

Sarah Brightman's okay, but I just don't really care for her.

On the other hand, Josh Groban is my favorite singer! He IS extremely talented. And he has stated before that he is not an opera singer-- but I'm sure if had the proper training, he'd be a great one. I'm not just saying all of this because I'm a fan of his-- he really is an extremely talented singer.

Josh Groban... Hmm... I reckon he'd be an okay opera singer. I agree with you, on that, that he's pretty overrated, even if he does have talent.

Sarah Brightman: She looks like a bug eyed creep. I really hate her soprano, even if she is a good singer. I reckon she was a pretty mediocre Christine in POTO.

Josh Groban - He is fine for what he does... if he were to start singing opera, I think I would be sick.

Sarah Brightman - Her scary dancing is the least of it! Have you ever noticed that she uses only one vowel ('oo')?

What I hate about both of them is that there are people in the world who believe that they are actually "classical." Talk about giving classical music a bad image! Also, of everything Sarah Brightman sings, there is nothing that annoys me more than "Figlio Perduto..." she interpolates Beethoven, AND the text is a poor *interpretation* of Goethes masterpiece "Der Erlkonig." FIRST SHE RUINS CLASSICAL MUSIC.... THEN SHE RUINS GERMAN POETRY!!!!!!!!

They are ok for pop artists, but not serious classical performers.

My thoughts are that I wish you wouldn't have brought them up for me to think about.
