well, in order to compare two of anything, you need to have a basis for comparison. For me, the basis would be: which one takes me straight to nirvana faster......and, so I would choose Bach..... I find his music quite sublime .. I never understood the put down leveled at Bach that he was mathematical, because I find mathematics sublime too..... I find it very amusing ...to each his own !! xxx

Bach's music seems at times almost mathematical. Consider the fugue which was an almost formulaic.. or his magnificat which contains the mathematical aspect and incorporates the voice.

Bach was able to write music in a similar style given any melody. He could even write a fugue on the spot.. given a note sequence.

When it comes to variations on a theme or consistency of style. Bach was better.

Mozart's music is considered to be more emotional than formulaic. His music such as Lacrymosa(requium) and Achs Ich fuhl's are 2 examples of minor pieces that Mozart demonstrates his passion in.

Mozart also has a less serious side.. which is evident because he wrote a lot of music as a young man. He wrote songs like the Papageno/Papagena duet in the magic flute.

Typically Mozart wrote based on the emotion he felt... or the emotion which told more a picture.

Both Bach and Mozart had a different style of composition.. so it is difficult to select a better person.

Myself, I prefer to listen to Bach.. as i enjoy the intricate harmonies woven into his fugues and fantasias.

I don't really think anyone can say who was "better," but I do think most would agree that Bach contributed more to the world of music. He is the reason we use the current (but sadly fading) system of tonality. I personally prefer Bach because he seems to take me by surprise more often and because I can truly hear divine inspiration in many of his works. I also am extremely fond of his Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin as well as his Suites for cello. They are very far ahead of their time. I of course love Mozart too, but I prefer Bach.

Who do I enjoy more or who was the greater composer. I can say with almost certainty that Bach contributed far more to music (he basically invented our music system) but I enjoy Mozart more. Really I love Bach's Fugues and his Passions but Mozart's opera's, violin concertos and symphonies are just incredible and fun as hell to listen to. Not to mention the loads of other works like Piano Concertos and Sonatas he wrote.

I like them both. But not as much as I like to say... " I'll be Bach..and you can be Mozart.." First part must be said in the terminator voice.

how can you do this. putting one against another. hmm...well Bach was a baroque composer and Mozart and classical composer so pinning one up against the other is like asking whats better: cats or dogs. i prefer Bachs style of writing though. im playing a beatiful one of his preludes and fuges right now. its very beautiful

J S Bach wrote all of his music to the glory of God and the re freshening of his spirit.

Mozart lacks the rich maturity present in Bach's works.
