Where can I download free music scores whether it be from a torrent or somewhere else? I'm specifically looking for Stravinsky's "Le Sacre de Printemps" but any other score is welcome. I'm not looking for a recording but the actual sheet music score. Thanks

Sadly, there was a wonderful website, the International Sheet Music Library Project (IMSLP) that had many scanned scores that were in the public domain. However, Universal Editions threatened to sue the owner of the site, causing him to shut it down. The good news is that he is engaged in negotiations to reopen the website, but it may take several more months.

The problem with Stravinsky scores is that his music is not yet in the public domain. In many nations (including the US), music remains eligible for full copyright protection for 70 years after the DEATH of the composer (note: this is not 70 years after first publication). Since Stravinsky has not been dead for 70 years yet, there is no place that you can legally obtain a copy of the score for free.

Stravinsky's "Le Sacre de Printemps" is not available on the web as far I can tell but how about his "Petrouchka" ? It happens to be my favorite of his ballets. It has wonderful orchestration, just as you would expect from Stravinsky, but is also rich in melodies. If you like "Le Sacre" or the "Firebird" you'll love "Petrouchka".

So here is where to go to see, read and download the full score (157 pages) http://www.dlib.indiana.edu/variations/scores/aad9501/large/index.html

If you live in an area with a good public library system, you can probably obtain a score of anything from there.

There are such things as "miniature" scores; which are relatively inexpensive. You should check them out.

The uncorrected version of Sacre is in the public domain in the U.S. as it was published before 1923. The edited corrected version published by Kalmus is under copyright.

The corrected Full orchestra score can be bought in Study size ($22.00) from

http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/store/smp_detail.html?item=5805575&cart=34140000862867657&cm_re=289.1.4-_-Results+Item-_-Title

The corrected Large size Full orchestra score ($95.00) can be bought at

http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/store/smp_searchresults.html?cart=34140000862867657&more=Le%20Sacre&style=CLASSICAL&artist=Le%20Sacre&artistfind=wa&songfind=ws&songbookfind=wa&select=Artist&findComp=wa&wordMatching=whole&max=10&formName=FastFind%20DESC%20SS%20v.45.1.37&lc=FastFind%20DESC%20SS%20v.45.1.37-form&sortBy=Bestselling&counter=11&navForm=123

As the corrected edition is under copyright the score can not be downloaded for "free".

It cost the publisher a lot of money to edit and print this score. There are over 21,000 mistakes in the uncorrected printings.
