I take it this is a regular Epiphone Les Paul 100, right

There is no danger to a Les Paul style guitar by removing the pickguard. It is attached with a couple of screws (one on the side and I believe one on the top corner of the pickguard) and comes off easily.

That said, there are holes being left from the screws in the finish and wood. Make sure you don't touch any screws belonging to the pickups or pickup rings.

You can take it off temporarily just to see how the guitar looks without it. Just go easy with the screwdriver so you don't scratch the finish... Do make sure you keep the plate and all parts, including screws if you want to sell the guitar down the line.

Personally, I'd get a guitar without one if it really bothers you having it there.

There are a number of images online of this exact guitar with the pickguard off. Just type the guitar into Google and select "images".

No, you can't demege it, but you can damage it. The pickguard has been attached so that it doesn't come off easily. Maybe you can trade or sell your guitar and get a guitar that doesn't have a pickguard in the first place.

Definitely damage the instrument. The pick guard is an integral part of the Les Paul. Simply removing it will already damage the guitar body's finish underneath.

You definitely CAN damage it. Especially if you don't know what you're doing. But it's not the most difficult thing in the world to do. If you don't necessarily care about the cosmetics of your guitar all that much, then experiment! Good luck.
