That would be like saying "Is a stale McDonald's burger the prime rump steak of our time?"
No! Not even remotely. Vangelis and Yanni are pop composers.

No...Vangelis and Yanni are not even eligible to eat off of Beethoven and Mozart's shoes. Never, ever, ever...
It is like trying to put Branford Marsalis in the same category as Kenny G....Branford is 100X better than Kenny G...
Continue to enjoy your Vangelis and Yanni, however. I don't think that I would give them up just because they do not hold a candle to Beethoven and Mozart.
You know...I think that Rick Wakeman and Eddie Van Halen are much closer to the Mozart & Beethoven vs. Vangelis and Yanni. Those guys are impostors.

Yanni and Vangelis ARE pretty darn close- they're still alive today but kind of old.
I'm gonna say the umpteenth "NO" regarding Beethoven and Mozart.

Vangelis and Yanni? Never heard of them. In which case, how can they be as famous as Mozart and Beethoven?
So I guess my answer is yet another resounding "No."

First, look up Beethoven, and Mozart, simply for their birth - death dates.
There is one use of the definition of "contemporary" (of our time) that I heard, I will pass it on to you.
~ Are all these people's music with us, that is, being played and listened to? Yes. They are all contemporary as far as being heard. ~
If a person is now listening to classical music, and their taste is for Vivaldi (baroque period, about 1700's) and nothing else, then Vivaldi is that person's contemporary music.

Not in any way, shape or form can they even be mentioned in the same BREATH as Beethoven and Mozart

Although come to think of it... that might be an appropriate reflection of the music of our time.
