Also try:

Beethoven - 9th Symphony, 4th movement "Ode to Joy"

Carl Orff - Carmina Burana

J.S. Bach - any of his Cantata's and other sacred works

Mozart - Requiem, or other sacred works and masses

Haydn - The Creation

Schubert - Ave Maria

that's a good start. =)

The best thing to start with is to get one of those inexpensive 5 to 10 CD sets of assorted Classical music by lesser known artists. This will give you an introduction to a variety of some of the greatest and most popular classical works. From there you will have some idea of which direction you want to head in as well as what is available in a nutshell.

A really good piece is the "Gloria" by Antonio Vivaldi, which was written in the early 1700s. It's pretty famous, and a recording of it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Classical music is a genre that spans at least 300 years! It can be confusing to get started, but this site has lots of classical music that you've heard before!
