What are some good classical music forums?

I'd like to be able to seek advice and conversation with people "in the know".

I figure there must be one or two sites which have great forums and communities, as far as forums go. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Some of us here are members of forums that are open by INVITATION - that keeps out the Twilighters and assorted "I wanna go to Julie Arts College" (seriously - I did not make that one up - it was asked today.) There are also several forums that are moderated, and we use our REAL names - and must be vetted first. Again - intelligent, civil ( nobody yells "YOU LIE") and far more informative that YA. You could check out Yahoo Groups for openers - there are a FEW that might appeal to you - but realize that those are actually run in an intelligent manner - unlike the daily scrum here. I sincerely hope you find what you seek - this place gets old fast . . . and yet we return, like watching a car wreck in slo-mo.

You misunderstand me - *I* am not the person who does the inviting - you find a forum, you apply, and then THEY send you an invitation - not a big deal, just a way for them to control access (since many jerks would quit at that step) and then you are put on a kind of probation - not unlike what YA does here. After you have posted/responded to a certain number of questions, and proven that you NOT some bomb-tosser, then you get full access. There is a List Owner or Moderator who posts the Rules - usually no big deal, just points about civility and staying on-topic. If things get nasty or dirty - then we *all* get a gentle reminder. ONe of the lists I am on is REALLY strict - ONLY about the flute. If you talk about music stands, concerts, etc - you get a *message*. The other 3 flutist lists I am on, are more accepting - as long as we *play nice*. The nastiness and incivility that goes on here at YA would not be tolerated there. So - seek other forums, but you sound like the kind of person who WOULD gladly follow rules, if everyone else did, for the good of the online community. YA is brutish, nasty, and often simple-minded - I give you that - and people get IRATE when you tell them that NO, you cannot spell out all the notes to River Flows in You. Try Yahoo Groups for a starter - one of my favorite flute groups is there.

You might be surprised at Y/A.

Certainly, it is not 'vetted'

Certainly, there are knowledgeable people who are generous with their knowledge and opinion, with the grace to state when it is merely opinion.

Your very question was asked a few days ago.

http://www.allthingsstringscommunity.com/ is a good place. I enjoy it there. It's free, if that's an advantage. That's all that I know of at the moment, but I hope I helped.
