What would be the power supply upon this Island? [I don't like the idea of pedalling to power an amplifyer]

(i) I. Stravinsky. "Symphony of Psalms. (any conductor but I. Stravinsky)

(ii)M. Dupre "Organ Concerto" (Any organist but myself)

(iii) J. S. Bach. "Mass in B Minor"(cond. J.E. Gardiner)

(iv) J. S. Bach "Magnificat" (ditto)

(v) C. Monteverdi "Orfeo" and a collection of Madrigals

(vi) C. V. Stanford "Anthems, Voluntaries for Cathedral worship"

(vii) C. Debussy. Preludes for Pianoforte.

(viii)J. Brahms "A German Requiem"

(ix)F. Poulenc "Gloria" "Concerto for Organ, Strings & Timpani"

(x) B. Britten "A War Requiem"

This certainly was not fun. I think only of what I don't have in my Island collection now!

My 10 classical 'Desert Island Discs' (at least today) would be (what about my non-classical ones?):

1. Beethoven: Symphony No 3 (Eroica) - Concertgebouw Orchestra/Kirill Kondrashin

2. Caldara: Maddalena ai piedi di Cristo - René Jacobs

3. The Music of Percy Grainger - Bournemouth Sinfonietta/Kenneth Montgomery

4. Mahler: Symphony No 9 - Berlin Philharmonic/John Barbirolli

5. Monteverdi: Vespers of 1610 - Nigel Rogers

7. Stravinsky: Petrushka/Rite of Spring - Slavonic Philharmonic/K Gmug/K Pentel

8. Veljo Tormis: Works for Men's Voices - Svanholm Singers/Sofia Söderberg Eberhard

9. Vivaldi: Violin Concertos Op 8 - L'Europa Galante/Fabio Biondi

10. A cappella works of Eric Whitacre - Brigham Young Uni Singers/Ronald Staheli

I had to leave out some really amazing recordings to get this down to only 10!

Wow - how on earth am I going to be able to choose?

*Big breath* - here goes...

1. Carmina Burana [the mediaeval collection] (Phillip Pickett)

2. Gabrieli: Music for San Rocco (Paul McCreesh)

3. Monteverdi: Vespers (1610) (John Eliot Gardiner)

4. Vivaldi: Stabat Mater/Nisi Dominus (David Daniels)

5. Vivaldi: Oboe concertos (Alberto Bernardini)

6. Vivaldi: Bassoon concertos (Klaus Thunemann)

7. Zelenka: Trios for 2 oboes/bassoon (Dombrecht/Ebbinge/Bond)

8. Mozart: Piano concertos (Malcolm Bilson)

9. Haydn: "Sturm und Drang" symphonies (English Concert)

10. Beethoven: Piano concertos (Steven Lubin)

That was so DIFFICULT - but what a great question!

I'm afraid that I might be cheating a bit, too, as 1, 8, 9 and 10 are multiple disc sets...which means that really, I'll be on this desert island with close to 25 discs...

Definitely the Planets Suite by Gustav Holst. I really enjoy many of holst's suites including the first and seconds suites for military band and the moorside suite. I have personally played the second suite in F and the Moorside suite and am going to be playing the fist suite in Eb soon. (i can't wait!)

I play tuba. ^^
