I have a quartet stage coming soon, and I'm trying a violin for the first time. And, I've noticed that the strings sound terrible. Can you recommend a set of strings?

- the violin that I'm using has the information (if it helps):
-A.R.Seidel
-Hand made copy of ANTONIUS STRADIVARIUS
-Made in Germany 2008

Also, if you know good set of viola strings, please tell me

The best strings are the ones that work on a particular instrument. Different types of strings have different qualities and a set that sounds great on my instrument might sound terrible on yours.

Seidels are student instruments so there would be no point in putting on a set of strings that is designed to show tone colors that aren't possible on an instrument like that. There are some sets of strings that would cost more than that violin is worth.

Dominants sound good on most instruments, including most student instruments. For viola, you might also want to consider the Eudoxa Tonica strings. For more information, read this guide:

Most private (and school orchestra...high school and college) teachers I know recommend the "old reliable" Dominant strings for advancing students. I like the sound of them and they are good solid strings. They stay in tune well.

My personal favorite strings (currently) are Evah Pirazzi (Pirastro). They cost about twice as much as Dominants, though. The problem with strings is that they are quite expensive, so I've been reluctant to try anything different because I KNOW I like the Pirazzis. If someone who I trust recommends another brand, I'd be willing to try them once (probably in the summer when I don't play as many gigs)...and see.

I play viola and i use Larsen A Evah Pirazzi D and dominant C and G. I've only been playing five years but when ever i mention what strings i use people are impressed.... I also use the A and D string that i do because if i use Dominant than the sweat on my hand eats away at the casing and unravels it. GOOD LUCK!

I use Thomastik Dominant GD and Pirastro Passione AE for the violin.

Right now on the viola I have Pirastro Obligatos and a Larsen A

You can't really base your decision on strings alone - it all depends on the way the instrument works with them. It is really different for everyone.

Maybe Pirastro Oliv, Larson, or Corelli Alliance strings

... but most people don't use strings that are potentially worth more than the instrument.
