I’m having a hard time deciding whether we should pay 3000-4000 dollars more and get a baby grand hailun or an upright hailun. They are both great quality pianos, and the upright is definitely better than any other I’ve played in the 5000 dollar range (our budget). What I love about the baby grand though is that the quality is just amazing, and hailun made no compromise on quality when making the baby grand. It also has an amazing sound and just feels great to play. The thing about the baby grand is that it’s like 9500 dollars (a little out of our price range) so is it worth it? It is just an excellent piano. I’ve been playing for about 9 years now. My parents don’t know whether it’s the right time to get me a baby grand though because over the past few years I wasn’t playing as much as I did before.
What do you think?

Here is a youtube video for both (the vids are a little long but it will give you more of an idea)

I just got the upright piano. :) They are basically the same, but if I was you and I had the money to buy the baby grand piano, I would get it.

When it comes to pianos, size matters. the longer the string, generally speaking, the better the sound is going to be. The length of the string in a baby grand and an upright is more or less the same. However baby grands are really just pieces of furniture. Sound quality and build structure is inferior to that of most uprights, boudoir and concert grands. If you want a good sound from a grand be looking to buy one 6-7ft + in length. I have a model B Bechstein at home which is 6'8, a good size with a fantastic bass. It is loud though, to loud for the room really.

So personally I would go for the upright. The Bosendorfer uprights are fantastic and many of them have the same action as a grand.

If you are serious about sound and action quality, spend just a little bit more on a quality upright.

Good luck!

I have had a upright for nine years, and I kind of get tired of it... if you're looking more to impress (esp when guests and friends come over), definitely look towards the baby grand. But since you're looking more for quality and the upright sounds really good,
